What are some common abbreviations used for reading military time?

military time is a system used to track and measure time in 24-hour intervals without the need for AM or PM qualifications. Military time is often denoted with a leading zero, such as 0530 (meaning "5:30 AM"). To differentiate between a.m. and p.m., military hours are sometimes abbreviated in several ways. Here are some of the most common abbreviations for reading military time:

• 2400: This abbreviation refers to 12:00AM or midnight. The "24" stands for 24 hours (0:00 through 24:00).

• 0500: This abbreviation stands for 5:00AM or "Oh Five Hundred" hours in the morning.

• 1200: 12:00PM or noon is sometimes referred to as "Twelve Hundred Hours", but can also be written as 1200.

• 1300: Commonly referred to as "One Thirty" hours, this abbreviation denotes 1PM or 13:00 hours in the afternoon.

• 1400: 2PM or 14 o'clock can be written out as 1400, which is shorthand for "Fourteen Hundred Hours".

• 2100: 9PM is referred to as either Nine Hundred Hours or Nine O-clock and can be written out as 2100 when abbreviating military time.

• 2359 and 2400 both refer to 11 o'clock at night, but 2359 typically denotes 11 PM (23rd minute of the 59th hour) 99 00 would therefore denote 12 O'clock Midnight or 00-24 Military Time".
